SUPERIOR QUALITY | EXPERT ADVICE

As an experienced diamond grader, gemmologist and certified valuer, Craig McKim sources the best ‘non- conflict’ diamonds and gemstones from around the world. This ensures the stones in all McKims pieces are of the highest quality and maximum brilliance.

When purchasing a diamond, a basic understanding of the four C's is essential.

CARAT

Refers to the weight of the stone. 1 carat = 100 points = 0.200 grams.

COLOUR   A scale from D to Z where D is colourless (white) descending as the stone becomes tinted, usually by yellow.
CLARITY Refers to any imperfections (other than colour) in the stone, such as cracks, carbon flecking or foreign material.
CUT Refers to the measurements and proportions of the stone.  Too deep and the stone is dark, too shallow and the stone looks 'washed out'. Well cut stones have close to perfect internal reflection, ensuring maximum brilliance, fire and scintillation.

CARE FOR YOUR DIAMOND

One of diamond's natural properties is that it will attract grease to its surface. This grease will greatly affect the brightness and beauty of your diamonds. McKims are diamond specialists - we recommend six monthly visits for professional cleaning and inspection. We will also check the diamonds to ensure they remain secure in their settings.  Some simple care in-between visits will keep your diamond sparkling. For optimum fire, brilliance and scintillation soak your jewels in warm soapy water for approximately 30 minutes - a soft brush will then remove any residue.
