Ocean Treasures

From the purity of white, warm golden yellows to the rich depths of green, pearls come in many colours. Pearls have been used in jewellery and adornment for centuries and are a symbol of timeless elegance. Celebrating a birthday this month? June is the month for pearls. Why not let us create a beautiful bespoke piece of pearl jewellery for you.

Although pearls are cultured by humans, the creation of the pearl is still a natural process - the oyster itself creates the beautiful colours and lustrous layers of the pearl. South sea pearls are created by the silver or golden-lipped oyster, Pinctada maxima, cultured in the Pacific and Indian Ocean regions, and the natural colours created range from white tones to gold and champagne. Tahitian south sea pearls from the black-lipped pearl oyster, Pinctada margaritifera, in the Polynesian region of the Pacific Ocean, naturally occur in black-green-grey hues. Pearls vary in their form or shape, from the perfectly spherical to more free-form. The quality of pearls are also graded according to size and the depth of the pearlescent lustre - the nacre.
